Owners of a rural piece of property in the 7100 block of Island Way Rd have applied for more time to clean up their property north of Oliver.
RDOS Area C Director Allan Patton says he is “very happy” with progress being made on cleaning up dozens and dozens of old cars on the Gary Cook property but no extension will be granted.
Patton says the injunction in place calls for completion by July 31st but he is telling staff in Penticton to hold off and allow another month to assist in getting the job done.
A second piece of property owned by others on the east side of Island Road Way will be dealt with at a later date.
Director of Planning Donna Butler says progress is being made on both properties and she has called for an update from her staff and bylaw enforcement officers before taking further action.

A BC Supreme Court injunction has been served on the owner of a large piece of valley bottom land that contains many many old car, trucks and derelict vehicles on Island Way Road.
The injunction calls for the removal of 75 cars prior to May 31st, and all but 2 cars prior to July 31st.
If the first part of the order is not completed by the owner the RDOS is free to return to court for an order for a contractor to remove the vehicles.
Director Allan Patton says he is hoping a second court case for a property across the road will also be finalized to clean up the area and the environment.
