Serafim Hilario

July 14, 1933 – July 21, 2013

 

On Sunday July 21, 2013, Serafim passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, at the age of 80 years.  He was a long-time resident of Oliver, then retired to West Kelowna BC.

Serafim was predeceased by his parents Serafim Sr and Amelia Hilario, his wife Cesaltina, his brothers Jose and Frank, his sisters Hercalana, Alsiadora, and Mercelina.  He is survived by his wife Elisabeth, his son John (Val), and his grand-daughters Kenna, Keely and Kadie; his sister Rosa (John), brother Authur (Fernanda), and also Elisabeth’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Serafim was born in Agua de Pau, Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal on July 14, 1933. He immigrated to Canada in 1956, and settled in Oliver.  He loved farming, fishing, camping, and wrestling. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, and his two dogs Cesar and JoJo. He will always be remembered for his infectious laugh and his generosity with both friends and family.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 25 at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, Oliver, with Fr. Neil Lustado celebrating.  A reception will follow in the lower church hall. Burial will take place at the Oliver Municipal Cemetery.  Evening prayers will be held on Wednesday, July 24 at 7 p.m. in the church.
