AlleyCATS Alliance received a $1580 grant from the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan/Similkameen to run an Assisted Spay & Neuter Clinic. The S.N.A.P. Program (Spay & Neuter As Many As Possible), ran until June 12th due to additional support from local veterinarians. As a result, a total of 31 cats from 21 families living in Penticton, Oliver, Okanagan Falls, Cawston, and Keremeos were able to be spayed and neutered.
The population of unwanted cats throughout the Okanagan and Similkameen is very high, as observed by the number of animals processed by various animal rescue groups and the SPCA. Many of these animals are the result of “domestic” street population. One un-spayed female and her offspring can produce up to 420,000 kittens in 7 years.
Cheryl Hubbard and Aaron McRann, Executive Director for the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan hold some of the kittens currently available for adoption.
