Those words in a resignation letter received by the Town on July 5 in which Councillor Larson indicates an effective date of July 15th for her departure.
“It is a privilege to have served on this council with a group of people who love their community and always look ahead to ways to make Oliver a better place to live for all.”
In a report to Monday’s Council Meeting, Corporate Officers Cathy Cowan says that she is recommending the appointment of a Chief Election Officer and a Deputy Chief Election Officer for the 2013 By-Election.
The election could be held as early as September 14th

Section 37 (Relevant sections)
By-elections
(1) Subject to this section, an election must be held to fill a vacancy in an elected local government office that occurs in the following circumstances: (d) the person holding the office resigns from office
(4) As soon as reasonably possible after a vacancy occurs for which an election under this section is to be held, the local government must appoint a chief election officer for the election.
(5) The chief election officer must set a general voting day for the election, which must be on a Saturday no later than 80 days after the date the chief election officer was appointed.

A date has been picked by the Town of Oliver Council for a By-election to replace Linda Larson – elected May 14 to the position of Member of the Legislature.
The date favoured is Saturday September 21 for Oliver’s By-election
Note: A By-election is triggered by the resignation of a council member however councillors picked this date in an open meeting – Committee of the Whole June 24th.
