No need for referendum for the $1.6 million loan for fire dispatch infrastructure. Only 63 persons in the regional district wanted a referendum. Over 6800 requests (10% of electorate) would have been needed to force a vote
Two residential developments in the South Okanagan got the big stop sign presented both in Area D (Vaseux, Ok Falls, Kaleden)
More homes on Vaseux Lake (both Google Earth shots apply)?? – this property given encouragement last December as a matter connected to the Regional Growth Strategy. However today’s vote by 8 rural directors saw only one member vote in favour of changing the OCP and the Zoning to allow for a 12 unit high end strata residential cluster near the waterfront – just south of the Vaseux Corner on Highway 97. The project is dead.
A residential development on the Weyerhauser property in Okanagan Falls has been turned down at the RDOS board table. Developers had an option for all for the former sawmill property and said that residential units would be needed to make for a quality industrial/business park.
Directors were persuaded that there is enough space/lots for 500 residential units in the area. It is expected that this plan as outlined will not come back to the board.
