The Osoyoos RCMP were kept busy over the July Long Weekend responding to 77 calls for service. There were extra Police helping to keep Osoyoos safe throughout the weekend on the Beaches, Lake, and on the roadways, due in large part to the Town of Osoyoos funding extra Policing and Bylaw enforcement in these areas.
40 of these calls were related to Public Disturbances, Bylaw Infractions, or Liquor Act Violations. Many of the calls dealt with public drinking / intoxication and one 23 year old man from Surrey received a $500.00 Bylaw ticket for setting off fireworks in a hotel parking lot. Over the weekend a number of individuals were arrested for Causing a Disturbance and / or Public Intoxication and spent some time in jail to sober up until they were able to care for themselves and make sound decisions.
The Police are happy to report that there were no major Criminal incidents over the weekend such as severe assaults or traffic accidents. Although there were many Police Counter Attack road checks and considering the large numbers of vehicles in town only two drivers were found to be driving impaired by alcohol. A 35 year old man from Burnaby and a 22 year old female from Surrey both received 90 day Immediate Roadside Driving Prohibitions and their vehicles were impounded for 30 days.
The Osoyoos RCMP would like to recognize again and thank the 4 civilians that took part in the rescue of the 2 females and 1 male in distress in Osoyoos Lake the morning of Sunday June 30th. Their quick actions made for a good outcome to this incident.
