FortisBC says – Your electricity service continues as usual during IBEW 213 labour disruption.

Customers will continue to receive electricity service to their home or business during the labour disruption.

◾We will continue to be available through the contact centre toll free at 1-866-436-7847
◾Customers will receive billing statements from us as usual.
◾Crews will respond to power outages.
Why is the labour disruption happening?
FortisBC has been in bargaining since early January 2013 with IBEW a union representing more that\n 200 FortisBC electricity employees.

Since mid-May, the union has proceeded with job action and it continues today.

In response, we activated what is referred to as an Essential Services Order, which ensures we can maintain electricity service, safely and reliably. The services and staffing levels set out in this order were negotiated between FortisBC and the union with the assistance of the BC Labour Relations Board.

IBEW represents approximately 225 FortisBC employees working primarily in electric generation, transmission, and distribution occupations such as power line technicians, electricians, and system power dispatchers.
