Crisis Relief Fund News Release
We commend Beth Garrish for convening the Wednesay, June 19th meeting of concerned people wishing to lend assistance to the residents of Park Place.
Groups of volunteers were formed to lend support in packing, moving, relocating, giving encouragement and providing funds where needed. The Churches that Care Committee volunteered to be the vehicle through which funds could be channeled to residents needing financial help. Donations can be made through other means too but there is value in using a centralized vehicle.
This Crisis Relief Fund will accept donations from churches, businesses and individuals. If an income tax receipt is desired the donation must not specify any particular resident as the recipient. This is a Canada Revenue Agency requirement.
This Crisis Relief Fund has been in operation for several years, notably sinceĀ the Testalinda mud slide occurred. We are grateful to the Living Way Christian Center for volunteering to administer the fund through a designated account at the Valley First Credit Union. Donation envelopes are available there for this purpose for individuals requesting receipts for income tax purposes.
If donating by cheque, make it out to Living Way Christian Center and put Crisis Relief Fund on the memo line.
The Committee will be able to distribute funds fairly quickly since some needs are urgent. Application criteria will be drawn up in consultation with concerned community personnel. This will guide the Committee in its decisions.
