Ninety Special Olympics athletes, coaches and other supporters gathered in Oliver for the sixth consecutive year for a fun filled day of bocce played in the field adjacent to the Oliver Portuguese Club Saturday.
A total of fourteen teams gathered from Trail, Vernon, Kelowna, Summerland, Keremeos, Penticton and South Okanagan (Oliver & Osoyoos). Some were seasoned veterans and others were new to the sport.
After each team had played four games, ribbon winners emerged in both A and B divisions. In the B division, South Okanagan won third place ribbons, Summerland placed second, and Penticton 2 won first place. In the A division, Trail won third place, Kelowna 2 placed second, and Penticton 1 took first place ribbons home.
A few of today’s bocce players are heading for Langley for provincial games July 11-14. We wish them all the best as they represent our region of the province!
