Those pesky dandelions! I thought I was finished with them after the spring onslaught but here were a few more poking their heads up through the lawn grass. The lawn had looked so green and pure and now this. They are just like sin that keeps coming back at us.
One response could be, “Why bother?” After all they are flowers so just let them be. Go with a dandelion lawn. What does it matter? Postmodern philosophy thinks that way about sin. Moral principles are just social constructions that we devise artificially. We can create our own truth. There are no absolutes. Go with whatever suits you. That may be OK for dandelions but not for what’s wrong with our world.
We usually don’t accept dandelions that way and we certainly can’t deal with sin that way either. Sin is not a fabrication. It’s for real with real consequences. You have to get it out with the roots, keep on top of it and not let it get the upper hand. Thankfully the Lord offers us a solution. He is able to cleanse us from them, take the penalty for us and also provide the power over sin we need in daily life.
“Come now, let us reason together,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet they shall be white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”
