In mid-September 1997 – 16 years ago – Bob Grant moved to Oliver to fill a union position at Oliver Park and Recreation. Grant worked in all phases of the operation and was selected to head up the department in 2002 in the position of Manager.
He had graduated from Belmont High in Victoria and worked 18 years with the Juan De Fuca Park and Recreation system on Vancouver Island. Bob has two grown sons and lives in Oliver with wife Kirsten.
Today he said – it’s time to retire and take a breather at the age of 55 ~ 34 years serving communities and people through recreation services.
Grant says Oliver is a paradise to him and he is very proud of his work and what he leaves behind. His highlight: the spray park – upgrading the pool, use of the curling club, and new plans for additional change rooms in the arena and a upgrading and expanding of the weight room.
Yes there has been downs and well as ups in the job but he looks forward to a rest and some new challenges. He and Kirsten recently purchased a spot state side so much time will be spent there when convenient for both.
The 8 directors of the Oliver Park and Recreation Society have launched a search for a replacement.
