On June 4th at approximately 10:15 pm, an Osoyoos RCMP Officer on patrol stopped a 2010 Dodge Ram for driving without headlights at night.
At the same time as the truck was being stopped Police received a call that 3-4 people had been denied entry to a local Pub due to their being drunk and had driven from the area. The vehicle stopped by Police was the same group. The driver of the truck displayed signs of impairment by alcohol and was required to provide samples of his breath for analysis. As a result of 2 failed breath sample readings the 32 year old man from Kelowna received a 90 day Immediate Roadside Driving Prohibition and the truck was impounded or 30 days. The 4 intoxicated occupants of the truck left by taxi and were then noted to be purchasing liquor from a local cold beer and wine outlet. Police intervened and the 4 were denied service and sent on their way from the liquor outlet which is not allowed to serve intoxicated customers.
On Friday June 7th, residents of Osoyoos may have noted an increased Police presence in Town. Numerous Osoyoos RCMP officers conducted an Enhanced Enforcement initiative conducting extensive foot and ATV patrols of the Town beaches and parks. Multiple road checks were conducted to check for impaired drivers and Police are happy to report that of the 100 plus vehicles checked that night no one was driving impaired.
One June 8th Police received a report that overnight someone had broken the driver’s side window of a 2002 Honda Accord and had possibly attempted to steal the car. The car had been parked in the 8100 block of Main St. The Police investigation into this is continuing. If anyone has information on this incident please call the Osoyoos RCMP at (250) 495-7236 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
