Decisions and Discussions – June 10, 2013 – Oliver Town Council
1. Hillcrest Avenue – Development Permit with variances granted to Mike Shybunka for a new garage (55.82 sq. metres) to service cars at 429 Hillcrest. It was pointed out that several problems existed with that piece of roadway including use by skateboarders, unsafe conditions at the highway and some breakage of curbing. A number of idea for council to ponder for future decisions.
2. Letter and presentation from Helen Overnes on pedestrian crossing at Highway 97 and Fairview Road. Mrs. Overnes says that for people with walkers or motorized scooters it is difficult to push a signal button and then get safely to the curb let down and cross the street in time. Her suggestions will be forwarded to Public Works but major changes to the intersection will have to wait until the highway/roadway is fixed in the future.
3. Greyback Construction awarded contract for $240,395 to rehabilitate the Flume 3 north of Oliver south of Gallagher Lake. Budget for this project spread over two years and will be completed prior to water turn on in 2014.
4. Council has decided to purchase a new signal light system for the airport damaged by irrigation sprinklers. Funds coming out of an unused airport reserve. Council will also consider in the fall a sewer line on Cessna Street to service both the air cadet hangar and the search and rescue facility that is proposed south of Similkameen Avenue.
