L to R: Paula Rodriguez de la Vega, Tiffany Beckedorf, Roxie Van Aller
Desert Sun Counselling and Resource Centre was recently presented a cheque for $6,665.69. Paula Rodriguez de la Vega was the lead organizer and headed up a team of about 40 volunteers to present a series of events culminating in a sold out show of the Vagina Monologues at the Osoyoos Mini Theatre on April 6.
$5,961.06 was received for “in kind” donations and sponsorships for advertising, sound and lighting, make-up, food and catering.
Paula is stepping down and has passed on the reins to Tiffany Beckedorf, who will lead the events for next year.
Desert Sun was pleased to be the beneficiary of the fundraising. They offer several programs free of charge, including a Safe Home, Counselling for men, women and children, and Parenting/Community Kitchen. Desert Sun’s Executive Director, Roxie Van Aller, is appreciative of the extra funding, needed to cover shortfalls in these programs.
For more information call Desert Sun at 250-498-2538.
Thru 2 raffles and the production of TVM, we raised a total of $7,406.32. Of this, $6,665.69 went to Desert Sun, and $740.63 went to V-Day International, our parent organization.
We had over 35 Oliver and Osoyoos businesses that contributed either financially or in-kind with a total of $5,961.06. We have over forty dedicated volunteers.
Thank you to everybody for all their support!
