All RDOS directors but two gave assent to a new Official Community Plan bylaw that will allow for the construction of 80 single family units on the flood plain lands north of Osoyoos Lake. First and second reading as well for a zoning change.
The matter will now go to a public hearing. Directors Tom Siddon and Allan Patton opposed the move.
Contrary to some of the statements at the meeting about the rising tide of water…the second picture here – taken this afternoon clearly shows the Willow Beach roads and housing areas completely dry. All concerned indicated that a lot of fill will be needed at the north end of the development to conform to all regulations with regard to flood plain protection.
Earlier on ODN
An open house was held by the developer for a new housing proposal at Willows Beach. A much reduced plan from an earlier proposal calls for 80 single properties, along with a public beach with walking paths and a lookout into a conservation area separating the developed area from sensitive wetlands and oxbows.
This new project still has to jump through all the processes due to the sensitive environment of the area.
