Carol Youngberg spoke to Council this week on behalf of the Desert Park Exhibition Society seeking a $3,500 donation for the sponsorship of a race at Desert Park on June 15.  Osoyoos Council voted to approve.

“It is a vote of confidence in what has been done at Desert Park,” said Councillor Michael Ryan.  ”I think this is a crowning achievement – having another race – after a very long hiatus.”

Youngberg and other volunteers have worked to bring racing back to the park after approximately 15 years without, as well as to upgrade the venue and area.

“Our intentions are to bring the leased 11 acre facility up to standard,” Youngberg told Council.  ”So the town will be proud to call Desert Park a multi-use facility.”

“There’s a whole run off of things that are great about this event,” Councillor Mike Plante added.  ”I look at those impacts as being positive for our town.”

A fundraiser for the society will take place on June 7.
