Developers have put the beginning touches on a vineyard fronting Highway 97 just south of Vaseux Lake corner. Owners want to develop a 12 lot subdivision on the lake-shore with the remaining land for grapes and a possible small winery.
RDOS Corporate board allowed the request (not in Regional Growth Strategy standards) but the same application may be coming back to the Rural board for consideration in the near future as a rezoning matter.
This is land matter involving a 12 unit subdivision of land just south of the Vaseux Lake corner – which is located adjacent to the Nature Trust and the foreshore of the lake. At the regular board November 15, 2012 – Directors voted in favour of NOT imposing RGS (Regional Growth Strategy) standards on the land.
In a corporate vote directors said no to reconsider the decision December 3rd 2012
The manner would have to go through a council of rural directors in the rezoning stage.
Background: Owners of land at Vaseux Lake have been given an amber light to proceed to the next stage of getting permission to develop after heated debate at Regional board table November 15th. A unnamed developer is hoping to build 12 residences, a winery and a vineyard on the land immediately south of the Vaseux Lake corner on Highway #97.
Agent Brad Elenko on behalf of the owners says the area is zoned C/T (Commercial/Tourist) at the lake side and AG (Agriculture) on the highway side to the east. Neighbouring parcels are owned by the Nature’s Trust and a number of RDOS directors said they want to keep the area pristine rather than allow more development.
Director Ron Hovanes said he agreed with the RGS when it was adopted calling for certain areas for expansion not the development of more housing away from a municipality and without any services on site.
