View From Space
While driving home from Osoyoos to Oliver a few weeks ago I listened to an interview with Chris Hadfield, speaking from the International Space Station. He commented on how beautiful planet earth looked, how terrible it was to imagine the devastation in so many war-torn, impoverished areas. It hurt to think of how much people need to learn how to get along, care for the planet and then enjoy life.
Most religions, philosophies, ideologies and belief systems try to address such issues. The astronaut’s personal convictions were not declared but the general consensus amongst the public seems to be that we should each have a belief system, keep it to ourselves, respect other beliefs and just get on with a life that cares for others and cares for the environment. Mankind has never accomplished that, but there is hope, there is a solution.
There is Someone Else looking down at planet earth. He is the Creator and Owner with a definite plan of His own and advice about what is real, true and important. God created the universe for a purpose. Although sin has marred that goal, the good news is that God knows how to fix it. He pays the penalty Himself in the Person of Christ, granting forgiveness freely to all who call on Him.
“Call upon Me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you and you shall glorify Me.” Ps. 50:15
