Notice of Motion to be presented by Director Allan Patton on Thursday’s Board Meeting
WHEREAS approximately 50 jurisdictions around the Province to date have expressed their rejection to the installation of these Smart Meters; and,
WHEREAS many residents, through their local government representatives and their local newspapers, have expressed serious concerns about the substantial increases to their power bills due to the new “Conservation” rate structure and pricing;
BE IT RESOLVED THAT the RDOS Chair write a letter to the new Premier of the Province of BC demanding that immediate action be taken by the Provincial Government to:
1) Immediately halt the installation of all Wireless Smart Meters throughout the Province; 2) Reverse the newly approved BCUC Conservation two-tiered Pricing Structure back to the original price and pricing structure; 3) Provide all Municipalities and Regional Districts all the options available including cost analysis for any new pricing and price structures for “Conservation” purposes; 4) Provide all Municipalities and Regional Districts all the options available for metering including infrastructure, installation and ongoing maintenance and operational costs; and 5) Articulate the establishment of a thorough and inclusive public process for consideration prior to any decisions being made.
AND FURTHER THAT this motion be forwarded to UBCM for consideration.
