A North Vancouver RCMP cell guard helped out a local homeless man by giving him two pairs of much needed size 15 shoes. The guard noticed on more than one occasion that when the male, approximately 50 years old, was being booked into the detachment cells he either had no shoes on, or the shoes he had were too small. The male could not afford the proper sized shoes, which was leading to gradual malformation of his feet.
The ‘D Watch’ female guard (who wishes to remain anonymous) felt compassion for the homeless man and took it upon herself to find the right size shoes for him. To find size 15 shoes proved more challenging than first thought. It was ultimately through social media contacts that a pair of boots and runners were graciously donated. A local shoe business also donated a gift card.
“Out of her own funds, the seasoned guard purchased matching socks and felt that by helping the homeless man have more comfortable feet the rest of his life may just be a little easier,” said Cpl. Richard De Jong.
