Was just reading your post about the idiots who are dumping up Fairview. On April 13, 2013, 1st Oliver Venturers volunteered to clean up a dump site on Oak Avenue. There is a bit of a gully at the bottom of the hill that has been designated a bird sanctuary by the RDOS – and we can attested to many birds living there by evidence of bird poop… LOTS of bird poop. This is the 3rd or 4th time that this area has had to be cleaned up. We took out a complete truck load of household garbage, 2 metal barrels, various buckets and plastics. Might I add that this gully is crawling with Poison Ivy and over grown branches that we had to crawl over, under and around to get to all the garbage.
We made a request to the RDOS to have our tipping fees waived at the dump and with which they gave us gratefully. Only one of us is suffering from the Poison Ivy exposure (I won’t name who but lets just say he used to take care of your flag at the complex).
I am really dismayed by the lack of respect people show in throwing bags of garbage, oil drums, old weed killer jugs, as well as throwing dirt in a garbage over the edge… why not dump the dirt and keep the non decomposing garbage bag???
I am proud of our youth that they would volunteer to clean up after those idiots who do not respect our community. Our Venturers are getting ready to make a trek to Canadian Jamboree in July. There, they are also making an offer of service by working instead of participating in the Jamboree. They will be running stations and working in various areas of the Jamboree. They are all looking forward to the huge event.
