Hot Tub at Oliver Swimming Pool looks funny with no tiles. This $19,000 project is underway this week to get it re-tiled with a non-slip surface in time for the 2013 grand opening May 18 – start of the long weekend next month.
Underfoot Flooring has the contract and will begin Thursday when tiles arrive in Oliver. All the old tiles had been cleaned up earlier. The last tiles went in 17 years ago and the weather, the water, the wear&tear, the chlorine have taken a toll on the surface.
Monday at the Oliver Parks and Recreation Society’s regular meeting and Annual General Meeting:
1. Auditors report received showing $920,792 in tax revenue and $632,056 from other revenue sources. User fees account for 38% of what tax payers pay totalling $353,701
2. Auditor advised that letter of agreement between RDOS and Society has lapsed and needs to be renewed
3. Regular meeting decided to advertise for local sub trades to help build two new change rooms on south side of area. The board reserves the right to hire a general contractor for the $80,000 project if the price is right.
4. No grant funding is available for expansion of weight room but planning will continue to reach the point where a request for proposals can be issued.
5. Board will ensure that the Hike and Bike trail is mowed this year once permission in writing is received from the provincial government
6. The staff will be bringing in a new “geese-be-off” light for Rotary Beach to see if the new invention works. If so more will be ordered to keep the birds from coming on shore.
