Soroptimist International of Osoyoos is proud to bring the interactive workshop “Taking Care of Ourselves, Taking Care of Others (TCO²) to the 5 Elementary Schools in the District. Produced by Children of the Street Society for Grades 5/6, this highly acclaimed program deals with timely topics such as on-line and webcam safety, permanency of image sharing, luring and exploitation, and ways to reach out for help.
These workshops will be conducted May 7th and 8th at Elementary Schools in Osoyoos, Oliver, Okanagan Falls and Keremeos.
The Children of the Street Society have designed this program to introduce the Grade 5/6 pupil to life skills including goal setting and decision making, personal safety strategies to avoid exploitation situations on the internet, and drug and alcohol prevention strategies.
Co-chairman of the committee, Tanya Tressel says “As Soroptimists, we direct our community service to improving the lives of women and children. The TCO² programs inform and educate the Grade 5/6 children in our local schools”. “We want to acknowledge the support and co-operation of the School District, and the teachers in the 5 participating schools,” says Tressel.
As the Co-chair of the committee, Soroptimist Lidia Ferreira adds that funding these programs is expensive. “If there are businesses, and citizens who recognize the benefits of these workshops, and would like to contribute to them, their donations would be welcome and accepted with grateful thanks from the Soroptimists,” she says.
