Sam Hancheroff of Kaleden, retired OK Falls elementary school administrator and current SD #53 trustee has won the vote at the NDP’s nomination convention held Saturday in Oliver.
Hancheroff defeated local health care worker Rhonda Bruce and Grand Fork Mayor Brian Taylor (seen left in picture below). Total number of votes cast not announced but more than 70 people attended and many other members cast ballots by mail.
The winner says he listened in the past month as went to see and visit with as many of the NDP members in Boundary Similkameen as he could. Hancheroff’s remarks to the nomination gathering indicated he liked listening and speaking out on the issues identified. He says Boundary Similkameen is a diverse ethic community where protecting the environment and valuing agriculture are two of his main concerns. He says clean water from our watersheds is paramount and the income inequalities in BC are not narrowing – the spread between rich and poor is increasing.
He says it is time for a change of government and he looks forward to the campaign ahead even though that time is limited.
