Put April 13th on your calendar for the 15th annual Rotary Club of Oliver Gala Auction and Dinner fundraising event, which will be held at the Oliver Community Centre. Once again, the Club is partnering and sharing proceeds with the Desert Valley Hospice Society.
This year’s event will be unique, featuring seven chefs from seven local wineries. As always, there will be a silent and live auction, with items generously donated by local businesses and individuals. Thank you all for your contributions.
The Rotary Club of Oliver has built a strong partnership over the past few years with the Desert Valley Hospice Society whose primary goal is to provide high quality, timely and accessible end of life care and support services for individuals nearing end of life and their families.
The Rotary Club of Oliver supports projects and causes both locally and internationally. The Club focusses heavily on Youth and is actively supporting Oliver’s Royal Canadian Air Cadet Big Horn Squadron, orphanages in Moldova and Rotary’s Youth Exchange Program. This year’s inbound Youth Exchange student, Josh, is enjoying a (cold, cold) year in Oliver and hails from the Philippines. The outbound student, Kenya, is experiencing a (warm, warm) year in Peru.
In June, Matthew will travel to Ottawa to participate in Rotary’s annual Adventures in Citizenship program and a Rotary sponsored bursary will be presented to a graduating SOSS student.
Since many local families need to travel out of the Okanagan Valley to seek medical care for children with serious illnesses, the latest Rotary community project will assist with a new charitable organization, to be called Highway to Healing. Its goal is to financially support families in their time of need, assist with fundraising and provide information about other forms of assistance available.
For more information about the Auction, a list of auction items and projects of the Rotary Club of Oliver, please refer to the Club website at www.rotaryclubofoliver.com.
We look forward to seeing you on April 13th!
