Thank you SORCO, for inviting us to a lecture, on the Rehabilitation of injured birds.
SORCO & the Desert Society together, arranged a lectured talk. We signed up, and enjoyed the day.
They talked about the Burrowing Owl breeding programme, and showed us the owls in the pens.
I learned about the importance of natural grass lands, which are vital for the survival of these birds.
Also discussed were injured birds. They showed us a few birds, including a Red Tailed Hawk, an Eagle, and a Great Horned Owl (called Houdini*).
We also saw the new facility they are building, to help care for the birds (funding is desperately needed for this project).
At SORCO, their philosophy for injured birds is “Rescue, Rehabilitate, Release”. A method that made good sense.
They have as little human interaction with the birds, to enable them to release back into the wild.
Sorco have an open house, on May 05th, so I encourage people to attend this.

The owl in the photo is a Burrowing Owl.
