Fortis Electricity is blaming the BC Utilities Commission for the conservation rate structure that has caused a lot of concern to RDOS power consumers.
Fortis Area Supervisor Bob Gibney says the utility company did not ask for that rate structure they had just asked for an increase.
Gibney told Regional District directors Thursday that he bears some good news – but only for farmers.
Farmers who own land classified as agriculture are eligible to get a subsidy on power rates.
Home-owners now pay 8.803Kwh cents for the first 1600KwH in a two month period. If you use more then that – the rate goes to 12.95 cents per KwH
Farmers are eligible for a special rate of 10.22 cents per KwH for all power

The RDOS will write to the BC Utilities Commission and request that the trigger point be raised from 1600 KwH to 2500 KwH for residential consumers.
