The Oliver Parks and Recreation Society Board has decided to act as a general contractor in building an addition to the arena.
Directors decided last night not to hire a supervising builder but ask sub-contractors and tradesmen to bid on parts of the job of constructing 2 new change rooms on the south side of the building. The estimated cost stands at $80 thousand – exact expenses will not be known until all tenders are in.
Request for Tenders will be publicized once drawings are complete and permission to proceed from the building inspector has been granted.
Parks Manager Bob Grant will supervise the project once tenders are in and permissions granted by the finance department of the RDOS as the money is to come from arena reserves.
Director Bill Eggert suggested strongly to the board that it investigate the liability issues and the RDOS purchasing policy before proceeding.
The additions will increase the floor space by 11,200 square feet with each change room about 40 feet by 14 feet with sink, toilet and shower. All change rooms will be assigned to teams and event participants with no designations for male or female.

Director Terry Baptiste has lined up a 9 week Slow Pitch League schedule of 6 teams for Wednesday evening in May and June. Actually this league will start in the last week of April playing double header action and each night there could be a beer garden hosted by a local service club. There is a hope to expand this league to 10 teams and two nights a week but interest has not been as high as in some previous years. Contact the Parks staff if you have a team that is interested. Deadline is April 12th.
