ATTENTION PARENTS! Important public meeting this Wednesday, March 13th at 6:30 p.m. at the School Board Office in Oliver!! Be there to put your say in.
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?: There is a suggestion by the School District to dismiss students one hour early every second week starting next September!
Whats this all about: … Team Inquiry Model (T.I.M.): Teachers, administrators and support staff, in our district, are highly professional and passionate about doing the best for students. They collaborate with colleagues outside of instructional time to engage in professional dialogue about students, participate in professional learning communities (PLCs), plan cooperative units, learn about new ways to use technology, and work together to increase success for students. This kind of collaboration is alive and well in our district. What we are talking about with the concept of a Team Inquiry is embedding time into the day for all teachers to gather with their school administrator and other professionals to engage an inquiry mindset with colleagues in order to improve practice, deepen learning, discuss new ways of meeting students’ needs and improving student success. Simply, inquiry is about asking good questions about the learners and how we can do things differently, creating new strategies together based on knowledge, research and what does work, creating new teaching and learning experiences and then assessing the impact on students. We want to be an innovative district. Innovation is not about being trendy or jumping on a band wagon. Innovation is about recognizing that old approaches many not be working for all learners and then creating strategies and structures that improve success. One model being discussed with trustees, administrators, teachers is to dismiss students one hour early every second week. Instructional time will be added to be sure we meet legislative requirements. The decision has not been made. The structure of where the time will be and when the students are released has not been made and there may be some alternatives that can be considered before April. Trustees for the Board of Education for School District No. 53 would like to continue the conversation and hear feedback from staff members and parents. We invite any interested parents and staff to attend an open forum on Wednesday, March 13th at 6:30 p.m. at the Board Office to offer your input.
