Members of the Osoyoos Indian Band will be paid for the use of land for the new correctional facility.
Later this month cheques will be distributed to each adult member of the band in the amount of $5000. Each child will receive the same amount but it will be held in trust until they reach the age of majority.
Population figures vary depending on where you get your information. Statistics Canada says there were 600 persons living on the local reserve in 2006 but only 320 listed as aboriginals.
