Weather: Early February weather featured weak frontal systems and moderate precipitation through the province, followed by two weeks of generally stable weather. Towards the end of February the weather saw a shift to persistent low pressure systems impacting the province, including a moderate atmospheric river event at the end of the month that delivered significant moisture and warm temperatures to Vancouver Island and the South Coast. Wetter than normal conditions were observed in the Upper Fraser, North Columbia, South Coast and Lower Fraser, and drier than normal conditions were observed in the southern portion of the province. Overall, monthly average temperatures were typically +2 ̊ C above normal through most areas of the province, and some stations in northern BC (e.g. Chetwynd, Mackenzie, Atlin) reaching monthly average temperatures that were 6 to 8 ̊ C above normal.
Snowpack: Due to frontal weather systems that occurred through February, snow basin indices increased through the Upper Fraser, Middle Fraser, South Thompson and Peace regions. Due to drier conditions in southern BC, snow basin indices decreased in the Similkameen and Kootenay. March 1st snow basin indices are near normal (90-110%) through the majority of the province. In the Okanagan-Kettle, South Thompson and South Coast, snow basin indices are moderately elevated (110-115%). Snow basin indices are slightly below normal (<90%) in the Nechako, Middle Fraser, Similkameen and Skeena-Nass basins.
