A letter from Diane Smith
I’m happy to be returning to Oliver April 13-14, 2013 for another wonder filled weekend of Yoga. For me the wonder is always affirmed as I watch participants blossom in their practices while we gather to work together with such focus. I heartily invite you to join us anew or again.
This weekend workshop will center on the mindful use of breath during the poses, meditation and simply being. Breathing of course is with us in every second of our existence, but which we often take for granted and pay little attention to. To embody the natural breath and shape it to enhance our practice is a true gem of the teachings. It’s with this that the body and mind unite and the asanas take on their true form. I hope this interests you and the proposed focus compels you to attend this upcoming April yoga workshop. I certainly look forward to meeting with you again, or meeting with you for the first time.
If I haven’t yet met you I’d like to take this opportunity to offer you a small profile of my study and practice of Yoga. I was introduced to Yoga 30 years ago by Pheobe Long, a devotee of Swami Radha, and once on the path I dove into further studies with various other women teachers, each with her own interpretation and devotion. My current teacher of many years is Sama Fabian (Aurolab). My work formally as a midwife and currently as an artist has always been informed by Yoga. My teaching of Yoga naturally honours the Divine and all folks who come to the Yoga for their own unique reasons. I have lived the better part of a decade in India, practicing midwifery, exhibiting my art, living in community, and studying and teaching Yoga. I live on Hornby Island in BC and am in the beginning stages of building a small yoga center at my home, Cat Creek. I teach regularly on the island and annually give retreats in the Himalayas in North India, at TARA in Sidbhari, Himachal Pradesh, as well as weekend workshops.
I hope you can join us this spring. Please view workshop details on the attached poster and complete and submit the registration form to reserve your spot in the April Oliver workshop ‘Breathing into the Pose’.
