It will be awhile before I can send you any “spring” photos. It is still very much winter at Baldy – we skied in 20 cms of fresh powder today. This photo is from my last run this afternoon. Baldy has added Thursdays March 21st and 28th to the Friday-Monday operating schedule for Spring Break. The last day of the season is Easter Sunday March 31st. We will have plenty of snow around for a long time, but with golf, farms and gardens, there aren’t enough skiers to justify being open in April.
Saturday March 9th is the 6th Annual Winemaker’s cup at Baldy. Some of the best in the wine industry compete in a dual slalom race, before heading to the valley for an evening event. This is always a fun one to watch, with some serious racing, and some not serious at all. Bill Eggert has won the competition 2 out of the previous 5 years. An entertaining professional video is produced each year, and can be found on You Tube – Paul Cotton Films.
Sunday is the wind-up, lunch and awards presentations for the Nancy Greene Ski League Racers. Racing against Mom or Dad is part of the fun.
There are special events and activities every weekend until closing. The spectator favourites are the Dummy Downhill on March 30th, and the Slush Cup on March 31st.
