Here are two views of the night sky taken last evening, I show two pics to show how from my location at home, bad lighting to the south of me spoils the view of the sky but by going up to the Fairview Kiosk, the darker sky and less light polution gives a better result for me with the camera or the telescope
In the pics, the constellation Orion is mid picture. On the left, the bright object is Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky and on the right, that bright object is the planet Jupiter. On March 17, the crescent moon will be close to Jupiter.

The big news for us astronomers is the expected appearence of comet PanSTARRS that will be in the west just after sunset mid March. We havn’t had a visible comet for several years so is much anticipated, I will keep everyone informed as to what to look for in the days ahead.
