The statement above from Janice Perrino, Mayor of Summerland at a regional board meeting discussing the fact that even though Premier Christy Clark visited this area – no firm promises were made to pay for a new patient care tower at Penticton Regional Hospital.
Perrino said she met with the local Medical Society directors today at lunch who told her they have spent about $10,000 so far in their campaign to raise the issue with the government and the public. She says that campaign and gathering of petitions will continue with thousand of signatures now in hand.
Perrino did say however that the Liberal government seems a bit more interested in the hospital expansion than the NDP however a direct quote from Dick Cannings shows he said “a proper plan was needed on how to spend health capital dollars. I think the NDP would do that quickly and I think the Penticton patient care tower would fare very well.”
RDOS Chair Dan Ashton commented that the Regional Hospital District had budgeted $2 million for conceptual drawings & the business plan and $1.25 million is left for that purpose – leaving the question as to why more has not been done to get all the paperwork done to get going on the so called #1 priority capital project of Interior Health.
