Keeping Nature in Our Future – Regional Biodiversity Conservation Strategy
The South Okanagan Similkameen Conservation Program (SOSCP) is pleased to announce that the Regional Biodiversity Conservation Strategy- Keeping Nature in Our Future is now available.
The need for a biodiversity strategy was outlined within the South Okanagan Regional Growth Strategy. Funded by the Regional District, Real Estate Foundation and other contributors, Keeping Nature in our Future is a practical resource, developed in partnership to support local and senior governments in achieving sustainability objectives.
SOSCP presented the key findings to the RDOS Board Planning and Development Committee in January 2013. The Board recommended that RDOS staff and SOSCP engage and consult with the public, including Electoral Area Advisory Planning Councils.
Throughout February and March, the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is hosting Open House meetings for each of the rural areas in the region. It is a good opportunity for public to hear about the strategy findings and recommendations, as well as provide comments.
The Rural Oliver, Area C open house will be held on
Tuesday, February 19th at 5 – 7 p.m. at the Oliver Community Centre
As the strategy is intended as a resource for all local governments, we would like to come and also provide an update to Oliver Council and staff on the strategy.
For more information or to arrange a meeting with Council and /or staff, please contact me. Further details about the Biodiversity Strategy and its products are also available online at www.soscp.org/biodiversity and we will send you a hard copy of the strategy as soon as we can.
