Thousands of people in the Fortis Power Area are concerned about the possibility of having Smart Meters radiating their homes. The most common concerns are the effects to health, increased costs to our power bills and the security issues The input time for customers to send their thoughts to the BC Utilities Commission will close before Mar. 4th.
Emails, letters and petitions stating your opinion must be sent prior to that date. Petitions will be available to sign at the Mainly for Women Trade Show being held at the Oliver Community Centre this Saturday, Feb. 16.
The Oral hearings as part of the decision to be made by the BC Utilities Commission will begin on March 4th and are open to the Public. The closing date is Mar. 15 for the Public Oral Hearings. Fortis has applied a second time to go ahead with their AMI project which involves installing Radiating Smart Meters. BCUC denied their request in 2008.
Fortis has been actively installing digital meters but do not have permission to install the radiating digital (Smart) meters.
Will we have to pay for yet another meter if they get approval?
BCUC denied Fortis this project in 2008.
A final decision of this project will be made later in the spring. These hearings will be held at the Holiday Inn Express at 2429 N. Highway 97 in Kelowna. Fortis customers are encouraged to attend.
