Independent MLA John Slater says he intends to seek the help of the RCMP or a special prosecutor to determine how to identify how his privacy is being invaded.
Slater wants to know how some of his personal text messages came to be in the possession of blogger Alex Tsakumis.
“These are private conversations, they had nothing to do with other ministries or caucus or staff in the building here” states Slater.
“So I’m going to be getting a hold of a special prosecutor or the RCMP and just find out what my rights are” – he told the Vancouver Province
Slater said it is his belief that someone in the Liberal Party leaked text messages, taken from a phone while he was still in the party, in an attempt to discredit him.
Slater says that Premier Christy Clark called him Tuesday morning and asked him to rejoin caucus so that he could vote in favour of next week’s provincial budget. Working for Liberal candidate Linda Larson’s campaign was also raised, he said.
Details of this conversation were also leaked to Tsakumis, raising questions in Slater’s mind as to what correspondence of his might have been taken without his knowledge.
“How much of this stuff is out there?” he said. “It opens the question about what other stuff do they have.”

“They recently ordered copies of Slater’s government text, phone and email records so they could have something to hold over his head.
He’s going to vote in support of the budget.” – excerpt from Vancouver Blogger Alex Tsakumis

John Slater told the Penticton Western today:
“I talked to the premier on Tuesday and she wants me back in caucus to make sure we are all united and voting to pass the budget,” said Slater
He said he was reluctant to accept the offer at the time and has since said he will not be rejoining the Liberals. He also indicated that he might let all of this die but has an obligation to his personal supporters not the Liberal Party.
