2013 Oliver Kiwanis Junior Bonspiel (Saturday, February 9th) was a great
Success with 34 junior curlers in total. We had 18 junior curlers from the
Oliver Curling Club, 8 junior curlers from the Penticton Curling Club, 4
junior curlers from the Kelowna Curling Club and 4 junior curlers from the
Summerland Curling Club.
The bonspiel was from 9:00am to 3:00pm and was split in to two Divisions
(Juvenile & Novice).

The juvenile group consisted of 2-teams (4-boys from Oliver & 4-boys from
Kelowna). They played two 6-end games and had a “hot shots” skills
competition. For games, the scoring was based on win, total ends won & total
points per end. For the hot shots, 1-point per skill delivered.
The Novice group consisted of 6-teams (3 from Oliver, 2 from Penticton & 1
from Summerland). The all played three 4-end round-robin games and scoring
was based on win, total ends won & total points per end.

Competition was fierce in both Divisions and more so after each curler
viewed the prize table. The final results:
Winner of the Juvenile group – Kelowna Team
Winner of the Novice Group – Oliver Team (five-person team consisted of Zack
Edwards, Joel Desjardins, Andrew Schur, Jonah Cook, Ben Cook)
Both curlers, parents and coaches all enjoyed a complimentary lunch of hot
dogs, pizza and homemade macaroni & cheese. There were lots of snacks
donated by various vendors in Oliver and lots of additional spectators.
We introduced Rosemary Pritchard from the Oliver Kiwanis at the start of our
prize presentation, as the Oliver Kiwanis is the major sponsor of this
event. Prizes were handed out and everyone seemed to have had a great time.
