A few years ago a committee of SOSS teachers began the Wall of Fame project to highlight athletes from SOSS who had gone on to represent Canada in their sports. Each athlete’s name, jersey, and achievements were beautifully displayed on huge boards that used to hang high on the wall in the old gymnasium before it was demolished to make way for the new school wing. Laslo Babbits (grad 1977) represented Canada in track, sisters Julie and Jodie Sutton (grad 1986) represented Canada won world titles in curling, and Spencer McKay (grad 1986) represented Canada in basketball.

Their boards were a very visible reminder that kids from small towns can achieve big things.
I graduated from SOSS in 1995 and was lucky enough to get to play field hockey for Canada from 2000-2005.
I was surprised and very honoured to be presented with my own board at a school assembly last Friday. A big thank you to all the wonderful people who made that moment possible.
