Both the teachers of BC and their direct employer the BC Public Schools Employer Association have vote and agreed to a bargaining framework for the next round of bargaining.
The vote by about 200 elected teachers is a significant step before collective bargaining starts on Feb. 4. It also calls for the appointment of a facilitator to assist with collective bargaining.
This agreement is not to be confused with the 10 year plan outlined by Premier Christy Clark this week – that received a negative response from the BCTF
Below is the note sent to all school boards today.
“Agreement in Committee
The Board of Directors met this afternoon following the BCPSEA 19th Annual General Meeting to review discussion and feedback from boards regarding the December 7, 2012 Agreement in Committee proposed between BCPSEA and the BC Teachers’ Federation.
As you know, although the provincial parties had originally agreed to a January 9 deadline for ratification, the Board of Directors determined that boards needed a further opportunity to address comments to the Board, and time for this discussion was added to the Saturday program at AGM.
In addition, the BCTF also set this weekend to consider ratification of the AiC.
The Board, at its meeting this afternoon, has ratified the AiC. We will communicate further as events progress.
The Board of Directors is very appreciative of the support of boards of education expressed throughout the weekend, and look forward to discussion at our Representative Council scheduled for Saturday, February 16, 2013.
If you have any questions in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to contact any member of your Board of Directors.
Alan Chell Chair”
