Today a retirement luncheon was held at the Firehall Bistro to honor the retirement of Guard Richard Green (BC Corps of Commissionaires) from the Oliver RCMP Detachment after 16 years of service.
12 present and former guards and 7 members and staff of the Oliver and Osoyoos Detachments attended today’s gathering. Richard’s wife Jan was also in attendance.
Chris Yerburgh, Detachment Guard Supervisor presented Richard with a certificate from the BC Corps of Commissionaires thanking him for his years of dedicated service to the Corps and the local Detachment.
Yerburgh also presented Richard with a card and gift from the guards and members.
The majority of RCMP Detachment Guards in the province are members of the BC Corps of Commissionaires.
Sgt. Ken Harrington says – “all police agencies rely heavily on the dedicated efforts of a core group of individuals (guards and matrons) who monitor the health and well-being of those clients who end up spending time in our secure facilities. They often are called upon to endure hours of foul language, noxious odor, ridicule, threats and boredom. Still they watch, report and support the agencies that they partner with. Richard Green was a Guard at the Oliver Detachment for 16 years and we are finally giving him time off for good behavior. Richard Green’s patient and kind character will be missed and we all wish him the very best.”
