From SOSS coach Maurizio Basso
Last week the Hornets played a total of 6 games posting a record of 4-2. The team started the week off with a 66-57 victory over arch rival Maggie in front of a very loud Hornets crowd. It was an intense game as Maggie fought back from being down 19 to 9, but the Hornets would not fold as they held on to victory. The Hornets then travelled to Kelowna on Wednesday to play Ok Mission. The game was never in doubt as the Hornets were able to play everyone in a 19 point victory 96-77. The team then travelled to Vernon on Thursday to play in the Clarence Fulton Tournament. The flu bug start to rear its ugly head as two starters were showing signs of sickness, this parlayed itself into a lacklustre performance as the Hornets were defeated by Westsyde of Kamloops 71-61. In their next match the Hornets were able to pull what strength they needed together as they were able to play a spirited game against #7 ranked AA Duchess Park of Prince George 77-74. This was a great game as the team showed they could beat one of the top teams in the province, even with one of their starters on the bench. The Hornets then faced off against Pen Hi, this was the final game of pool play and the Hornets needed to win it by 19 points if they wanted to win their pool. The gave it a great shot but game up 8 points short as they won the game 82-71. It was a great all round week as they won their two league games to push their league record to 3-1 and they had a successful tournament given the circumstances. Gurkamal Dhaliwal, Malcolm Heinrichs, and Parm Sidhu were players of the games for the tournament. The team travels to Summerland on Monday January 21st, and then they play a league game at home on Wednesday January 23rd versus Ok Mission. Come out and cheer them on to victory, as the fan support makes this all worth while.
