The two methods of sweeping a curling rock.  John Stoneberg, on the right, shows the method of sweeping that his mother taught him – stand tall, pressure from the top of the handle, like mopping a floor.  Al Cade shows the ‘down and dirty’ method he learned since the introduction of modern ‘brooms’.  “The advantage,” he says, “is that you can spit on the ice and affect the slide of the rock, and no one can tell….”
