MLA John Slater says he will announce a final decision this week on whether or not he is running in the May election.
One of his rivals, Joe Cardoso has indicated he does not plan on running which will mean a clear – left/right vote between the Liberals and the NDP.
Slater told the Osoyoos Times:
“All I know is I filed my application back in September and I haven’t heard anything back from the party since then…”
He said he was under the assumption he would be the Liberal candidate for Boundary-Similkameen for the upcoming election. Slater said he was surprised to read numerous media reports this past weekend suggesting he might not run again.
Slater told the Penticton Herald: “It’s up to the party to decide what will happen. “I’m trying to do what’s best for the party,”
At least one possible candidate has been lined up by the Liberal party to run if Slater decides to bow out.
A week ago this answer from Sam Oliphant of the BC Liberal Party: Any announcements on a nomination meeting in Osoyoos?
“There will be news there but I don’t expect anything in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned.”
