1. when do ice wine grapes usually get picked?

When temperature reaches -10

2. how cold for what period dictates the time of the pick?

Usually has to be that temperature for a couple of hours

3. is this a mild year?

Not yet. Too early to tell

4. how many acres exist in the south okanagan for ice wine?

Not sure

5. are there years when the crop is not picked?

Yes.  I remember 1990-91, but I think there have been others.
