A Greyhound bus slid off the Coquihalla Highway north of Merritt early this morning, sending 42 people to hospital for precautionary treatment.
Timothy Stokes of Greyhound says the bus was heading to Prince George from Vancouver. “At one o’clock a.m., it was reported an incident took place with one of our coaches,” he said. “There were approximately 42 people on board at the time. No serious injuries reported. As recommended by the RCMP, we did transport those 42 passengers on a second bus to the hospital as a precaution.” Of the passengers taken to hospital, 26 required medical attention.
Tracy Watson with the Interior Health Authority says three or four patients are still being treated, while the rest have been released.
Stokes says the passengers will soon be on another bus to their final destination. “The passengers that have been released,” he said. “We are going ahead and feeding those passengers right now before they continue their travel into Prince George.”
