An oral judgement will be read out today in the case of 34 year old Brian Douglas Louie charged with aggravated sexual assault and assault causing bodily harm in connection with a incident May 20, 2010 on the local reserve.
A ban on publication exists to prevent knowledge about the victim. Louie had his say in court today:
1. He said he surrendered to police – he was not arrested as earlier reported
2. He said he made a mistake and he feels badly about it
3. He said he was not the villain or a “Hannibal Lector”
4. He admitted to heavy alcohol consumption and cocaine use in the 72 hours prior to the
incident
5. He said he blacked out during that period and could not remember a number of occurrences in a long sequence of movements prior to 7am Sunday morning when the incident happened.
6. He stated that he didn’t really want to go to a party that night but the victim called a number of times to persuade him. He said most of the night was a real good time.
7. He told the court he was injured in defensive moves when a fight broke out. He says he has no recollection of kicking the victim or dragging her down stairs.
8. He stated the victim is a ‘drama queen’ who started to freak out after he bit her.
9. He said he could not explain why he jumped out of a friend’s bedroom window on a 2nd floor when police were looking for him.
The crown and defense presented no closing arguments and Judge Meg Shaw will present her findings on the matter as to innocence or guilt. Sentencing, if any, would likely occur in January.
