ODN phoned Dan Ashton late today and asked if he will stand for re-election as Chairman of the regional board – RDOS.

Mayor Ashton says that democracy will prevail. Ashton says he hopes he will win but no one will know until the votes are all counted Thursday.

Mayor Ron Hovanes of Oliver has thrown his name into the race. Others may follow.

Ashton said Ron Hovanes is a good friend and he wishes him well. His one sharp comment was that a chairman must be regionally oriented and be able to speak well on all regional issues.

He also said there are others who could succeed him if he is elected as MLA in May.
