SOSS put on their ‘Winter Wonder’ formal dance this week. The student event was an amazing success. There were so many people from both Osoyoos and Oliver high schools and those in attendance definitely had fun. About 170 people filled the hall. Everyone looked so wonderful that night. The dance was put on by the Link Crew class of about 25 to 30 people at SOSS and it took them 3 weeks to get it organized, and on the day of it took almost two hours to set it up. They have been working hard to make this dance a success including making, finding, and putting up the decorations, as well as the food that was provided.
Mrs. Podmorrow, the teacher in charge, brought in some of the food and the sweets table was donated by a student’s parent, Bibi Bailey. One student, Tristen Johnston, made up the tickets on the computer for the dance and participated in making and teaching to make the many snowflakes that were found hanging from the ceiling at the community center.
The Oliver Parks and Recreation Society was very gracious about lending out the space for the dance free of charge. The school paid for a DJ as well to really put the kids in the mood. Dakota Dierdorf, the DJ who is a former Keremeos grad student really got the crowd going and everyone had a great time. It was definitely worth the effort, Link Crew did a wonderful job, and all the students are looking forward to the next one.
